Brewing Recipes: The Heart of Monkey’s Brewing

Our Recipes

Welcome to the Brewing Recipes section of Monkey’s Brewing — the place where I share every homebrew recipe that’s come out of my kettles, from the early experiments to the beers I keep coming back to again and again.

If you’re here, you’re probably looking for inspiration, guidance, or maybe just reassurance that you’re not the only one who’s tossed together a questionable hop schedule at 11 PM. You’re in the right place.

How These Recipes Are Written

Every recipe here follows the same structure:

  • Style overview
  • Ingredient list (grain, hops, yeast, adjuncts)
  • Water profile (if relevant)
  • Brew day notes
  • Hop timing guide
  • Fermentation schedule
  • Expected OG, FG, ABV, and color
  • What I’d change next time

I write these recipes the way I wish recipes had been written when I started:
simple, detailed, honest, and beginner friendly.

If I made a mistake in a batch (and oh, I have), I’ll note that too. It’s part of the fun.

I’ve Brewed Every One of These Recipes (Usually More Than Once)

Everything in this section comes from real-life brewing.
I’ve brewed every recipe you see here — not just once, but often several times as I refined the grain bill, hop schedule, and fermentation timing.

If a recipe made it onto this site, it’s because:

  • I brewed it myself
  • I took notes
  • I modified it when needed
  • I brewed it again
  • And it came out well enough that I’m willing to recommend it

These aren’t theoretical recipes. They’re all tested in the real world — sometimes with Monkey watching, sometimes with Freyja underfoot, but always with a real brew day behind them.

A Note on Brew Dogs and Recipe Development

Monkey supervised many of these recipes with his trademark combination of confidence and confusion.
Freyja tends to supervise by standing exactly where I need to be.
Neither has contributed anything to recipe formulation except enthusiasm — which, frankly, is still a meaningful contribution.

My Brewing Philosophy for Recipes

A few principles you’ll see repeated:

  • Simple recipes often taste better.
  • Perfectly repeatable beats overly complicated.
  • Don’t be afraid of big flavors.
  • Document everything. (Future you will thank you.)

Where to Start

🍻 Cheers, and welcome to the creative side of brewing.
