Miscellany: The Fun Stuff That Doesn’t Fit Anywhere Else
Welcome to the Miscellany section of Monkey’s Brewing — the home for everything I enjoy that isn’t brewing but still deserves a place on the site. This is where you’ll find the odds and ends, the side interests, the obsessions, the occasional rant, and anything else that doesn’t fit neatly into a mash tun or fermenter.
Think of this section as Monkey’s junk drawer — except more organized and with better stories.
A Little About Me Outside Brewing
I love beer.
I love brewing.
But that’s not remotely all I’m into.
Here’s what you can expect to find here:
🏈 Sports Nut (and Proud of It)
I’m a full-time sports junkie — and a loyal fan of all the Denver pro teams:
- Broncos
- Avalanche
- Nuggets
- Rockies
And when it comes to college sports, I pull for pretty much every Mountain Region program. If it involves rivalries, late-night kickoffs, chaotic upsets, or questionable officiating, I’m watching.
You may occasionally find game-day thoughts, rants, or celebratory posts in this section.
(If Freyja is featured, it’s probably because she’s blocking the TV during the game.)
🎶 All Types of Music
My playlists are about as predictable as Colorado weather. One minute it’s classic rock, then metal, then reggae, then a Disney soundtrack for no particular reason. You’ll find thoughts on concerts, albums, artists, and the songs that end up as brew-day background music.
If I ever figure out why some hops seem to pair better with certain genres, you’ll be the first to know.
🌴 Tropical Vacations Are My Weakness
I can’t resist a good tropical trip — palm trees, beaches, fruity drinks, low-stress decisions, and warm evenings. It’s the exact opposite of a precision-controlled fermentation chamber, which is probably why it works so well.
Expect trip notes, photos, and maybe even tropical-inspired beer ideas.
💨 Cigars: A Good One Is a Little Vacation
I enjoy a good cigar — usually on the back patio, usually with a beer in hand, and usually while Freyja pretends she doesn’t want a sniff. Sometimes a cigar review or pairing idea makes its way in here. This is a judgment-free zone.
🎨 Also… I Have a Strange Affinity for Bob Ross
I can’t explain this one.
The man was magic.
Sometimes you need brewing chaos in your life, and sometimes you need a soft-spoken legend to remind you that there are no mistakes, only happy accidents.
If you see a Bob Ross reference pop up somewhere in this section… just nod and keep reading.
Why This Section Exists
Monkey’s Brewing is about more than brewing.
It’s about the things that make life fun — the hobbies, the passions, the distractions, the dogs, and the weird little interests that spark joy.
This section is for:
- the personal stories
- the off-topic fun
- the thoughts that don’t fit anywhere else
- the experiences worth sharing
- the random creativity that strikes at 11 PM
If it brings me happiness — or makes for a good story — it might end up here.
